Paused - capturing the session is what moves the BM8 score

Schedule › Guidance SessionsA guidance session across Prep, Record and Action plan - with the Benchmark 8 ring filling.

Why it matters

What changes

The honest version of the before, and what it looks like once this is running.

Without Chapter
  • Notes in a notebook that nobody else can read
  • Action points agreed in the room and forgotten by Friday
  • No way to prove the adviser was qualified when it mattered
  • Pupils with no route to ask for a session
With Chapter
  • A prep brief before you sit down, built from that pupil's record
  • Notes dictated, photographed or typed - shorthand is fine
  • SMART action points written for you and owned by name
  • A Benchmark 8 quality ring that shows what the session is missing

How it works

Up and running in minutes

Three steps, in the order you'd actually do them.

Open the prep brief

A focus line, talking points and sharp questions built from that pupil's record - before they sit down.

Capture however you can

Type it, dictate it, or photograph handwritten notes. Shorthand is fine.

Turn it into an action plan

Summarise & add actions writes a clean record plus SMART action points with an owner and a due date.

In detail

How it actually works

The mechanics behind the screenshot.

01

Prep, Record, Action plan - in that order

The tabs follow the actual shape of a guidance session. Prep gives you a focus line, talking points and sharp questions before the pupil arrives. Record takes your raw notes in whatever form you can capture them. Action plan turns them into owned, dated next steps.

  • Prep brief generated from the pupil's history, or from a session template
  • Capture by typing, dictation or a photo of your handwritten notes
  • Summarise & add actions writes a clean record and SMART action points
  • Action points carry an owner - Student or Adviser - and a due date

Benchmark 8 has conditions - so they're on screen

Personal guidance only counts if the adviser is qualified and the session actually produces something. Chapter checks the first by reading uploaded certificates and cross-referencing the CDI professional register, and shows the second as a ring that fills as a session gains notes and an action plan.

  • Certificates read automatically for qualification, level and awarding body
  • Name cross-checked against the CDI register
  • School-level status: qualified Level 6+ adviser met, or not yet
  • Pupils can request a session; advisers accept, propose a time or decline

Questions

The things schools ask

Yes. Sessions do not have to be booked in advance - you can record a conversation after the fact, which is how most corridor guidance actually happens.

Type it, dictate it, or photograph handwritten notes. Shorthand is fine - Summarise & add actions turns whatever you captured into a clean record plus SMART action points.

Chapter reads the certificate you upload to extract the qualification, its level and the awarding body, then cross-references the adviser's name against the CDI professional register. The school-level status then shows whether Benchmark 8's Level 6+ requirement is met.

Yes. Requests arrive with a topic, an optional message and the pupil's preferred slots. You can accept and book, propose a different time, or decline.
