Compass+ Export
Compass+ (now Compass for Life) is the free national self-assessment tool every UK secondary keeps up to date. Chapter exports your Gatsby evidence straight into it - a student-level CSV in the CEC Tracker schema, with your URN attached so records match on upload.
- columns, CEC schema
- 15columns, CEC schema
- records re-typed
- 0records re-typed
- row per encounter
- 1row per encounter
Gatsby › Export › Compass+A student-level CEC Tracker CSV, built from the term's evidence and ready to upload.
Why it matters
What changes
The honest version of the before, and what it looks like once this is running.
- The same encounter typed into Chapter and then into Compass+
- A tracker that drifts out of date by half a term
- Hours of dual-keying that produce no new information
- Two systems disagreeing when somebody asks which is right
- One export that matches the CEC Tracker import schema
- Every Gatsby evidence record for the year, one row each
- Your school URN attached so records match on upload
- A school-level summary export for the headline percentages
How it works
Up and running in minutes
Three steps, in the order you'd actually do them.
Do the work in Chapter
Every event, lesson, session and encounter writes a Gatsby evidence row as it happens.
Scope the export
Pick the academic year, and narrow by year group or specific benchmarks if you need to.
Upload to Compass+
A CSV in the CEC Tracker schema, with your URN attached so records match. Nothing re-typed.
In detail
How it actually works
The mechanics behind the screenshot.
The columns Compass+ expects, in the order it expects them
This is not a generic data dump. The export is written against the CEC Tracker student-level import schema, including the URN used to match records, so the file uploads rather than needing to be reshaped first.
- Scoped to a school and academic year, oldest encounter first
- Optional filters by year group and by specific benchmarks
- Employer or provider name resolved from your CRM where it exists
- Meaningful-encounter flag carried through so the tracker scores it correctly
| Student | Benchmark | Encounter Type | Meaningful |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clarke, Emma | 5 | Careers fair | Yes |
| Williams, Marcus | 6 | Workplace visit | Yes |
| Patel, Priya | 2 | LMI activity | No |
| Lee, Jake | 8 | 1:1 guidance | Yes |
A second export for the headline numbers
Alongside the student-level file there is a school-level summary: one row for the whole school and one per year group, each carrying all eight benchmark percentages. It is the shape you want when somebody asks for the figures rather than the records.
- School name, academic year and generation date on the header row
- BM1–BM8 percentages plus an overall figure
- A year-group block underneath with the same eight columns
- Opens straight into Excel or Sheets
What you get
Everything included

Questions
The things schools ask
No, and we would not claim it. Compass+ (now Compass for Life) is the free national self-assessment tool from the Gatsby Foundation and the DfE. Chapter is where the work happens; this export keeps your national record in step with it.
One row per Gatsby evidence record for the selected academic year, with pupil name, date of birth, year group, URN, benchmark, encounter type and date, employer or provider, sector, duration, the meaningful flag and the evidence source.
You can scope by academic year, by year group and by specific benchmarks. Encounters are ordered oldest first so repeat uploads stay predictable.
On the Gatsby Benchmarks report, under the Export menu - alongside the Ofsted pack, governor report, CSV and PowerPoint deck.
