Why it matters

What changes

The honest version of the before, and what it looks like once this is running.

Without Chapter
  • A fortnight of collation before every governors' meeting
  • Numbers that disagree depending on who produced them
  • Nothing to show for the hours pupils spend on careers outside lessons
  • Reports that are stale the day after they are written
With Chapter
  • Standing reports that are current whenever you open them
  • One evidence base behind every figure, so the numbers reconcile
  • Chapter app engagement translated into benchmark evidence
  • CSV, PDF and print output built for the audience asking

How it works

Up and running in minutes

Three steps, in the order you'd actually do them.

Pick the report for the audience

Gatsby for the careers lead, Governance for governors, Engagement for SLT, Evidence for inspection.

Scope it

Narrow to a year group, form group or single term - every figure recalculates against that scope.

Hand it over

CSV for your own analysis, or a print layout that drops the app chrome and stands alone as a document.

In detail

How it actually works

The mechanics behind the screenshot.

01

Reports for the people who actually ask

Each report answers one audience's question. Gatsby Benchmarks for the careers lead, Governance Pack for governors, Engagement for SLT, Engagement Evidence for inspection, Trust Leaderboard for multi-academy trusts.

  • Gatsby Benchmarks - progress against all eight with gap analysis
  • Governance Pack - a termly, governor-ready summary
  • Engagement - activity, adoption and platform usage
  • Engagement Evidence - what Chapter time proves against the benchmarks

02

Scope it, then hand it over

The evidence report narrows to a year group, form group or single term, then prints. The print layout drops the app chrome entirely, so what comes out of the printer is a standalone document rather than a screenshot of a dashboard.

  • Filter by year group, form group and term
  • Per-benchmark RAG with the headline and the pupil count behind it
  • Export as CSV for your own analysis
  • Print / Save as PDF produces a clean, standalone report

Questions

The things schools ask

Live. Every report is generated at request time from current data, so opening it is the same as regenerating it. The Governance Pack is the exception - sharing one deliberately freezes that term's version so governors and the school are reading the same document.

Yes. The evidence report scopes to year group, form group and term, and the Gatsby report switches cohort on the compass itself.

Chapter counts the number of days a pupil was active rather than minutes logged. It is a more honest measure of engagement, and it is the one the reports use.

Report access is permission-gated. Governors, for example, are limited to reports rather than the full dashboard.
